Hi! I’m Sandra,
A mother, educator, & blogger
I am currently an Academic Advisor and Professor at Monroe College in the Bronx, NY. My previous role includes working as an Admissions Counselor which is where my love of helping students first began. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish from the University at Albany, along with a Masters of Education in Guidance Counseling from The College of New Rochelle. I have worked in higher education for over a decade and am passionate about making a change in the lives of the young adults living the community where I come from.

Perhaps my greatest role is being the proud Mother of two wonderful kids, Savannah and Sebastian, who have taught me more about life than I could have possibly ever imagined. They have shown me what it means to love unconditionally while still keeping me on my toes!

I was born and raised in the Bronx to parents who migrated from Puerto Rico. My parents ensured that I remained focused on pursuing a higher education even though they never had the opportunity to do so themselves. I always tell my students that my education is one of the very few things in life that no one will ever be able to take away from me. My goal is to empower and motivate the underprivileged youth who are so often at a disadvantage when it comes to applying to college. They need guidance as they learn about financial aid, and mentors as they embark on a career path of their choice. If we could all just remember to lend a helping hand to that one special student that we may know, I truly believe that the world would be a better place. Don't ever be afraid to make a difference!
